Another beautiful day here in the RVA. Sun was shinning and the snow was melting but that didn't stop people from driving like idiots.

I was dispatched to an accident involving a city school bus with no reported injuries. Upon my arrival at the scene the school bus was totally blocking both lanes of eastbound traffic and the striking vehicle was still in the westbound lane pretty much right at the spot where he drove into the back of the school bus. I checked on him first since I pulled up right behind him and he was shaken up but not injured, I then went over to the school bus and spoke to the driver through the drivers side window and I asked her if she was ok and she stated that she was shaken up a bit. I asked her if she would like an ambulance to respond and she stated that she would go to the hospital later on her own. I then asked if any of the kids on the bus were injured, there were 4 kids on the bus, and she said no, no one is hurt.

Ok at this point its a simple accident so I get all the information I need for my report and go back to my car to start my paperwork. Well after about 10 minutes I see the Quint from Firehouse 19 pulling up to my accident and a minute after that an ambulance pulls up. Now I didn't call them and dispatch did not call them because it came out as an accident without injuries so who called them. It seemed that the kids on the bus called their parents and after the school board administrators who were on the scene, and there were like 10 of them there, found out the kids are now claiming injuries they called for the ambulance. I asked what kind of injuries because now I have to list names and dob's on my accident report, which is no big deal. I was told back and neck injuries so I assumed that when the kids got a hold of their parents their injuries got worse. I know that some of you are probably thinking that my assuming is wrong and that they could be really hurt but after handling hundreds of accidents I know when someone is hurt, just saying.........

Anyway they take out the kids on backboards and had to call an additional ambulance to handle the mass casualty event that it turned out to be. I'm still calling shenanigans on this one.

Nothing else to report for the rest of my shift.

On a sad note, the Thin Blue Line got thinner today as a VSP Trooper was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop. My condolences got out to his family and the entire VSP family as well. We are all brothers and sisters in BLUE and when one of gets hurt it affects us all. Please say a prayer tonight so that we all make it home at the end of our shift.
