The day started out as miserable as a day can get. The ride to work was horrible with all the heavy rain/slush coming down making visibility practically nothing. Oh well made it in safely.
As you can imagine with weather like this we will get a lot of calls for accidents and you guessed it we started the shift off with some calls for them.
My first one was a single vehicle accident in which a car ran off the road into a ditch. Since I was on the other side of my sector it took me a few minutes to get there and when I did the car was gone! Good for me and good for them.
My next call is one of the ones you don't forget very often. I get dispatched to meet a complainant who is at the Post Office and needs help getting home which is only a few blocks away and her car isn't working right. I get there and there is this sweet old lady who tells me that she cannot get her car to work. I ask her whats the matter and she says she doesn't know how to clear the rear window or put the wipers on. I ask her how long has she had the car and she tells me 1 day, it's a rental car. Ah ha problem solved, I brush the snow off of both windows and tell her to get in the car. I show her where the rear defroster is as well as how to put the windshield wipers on and all the other stuff she needs to know....all set.
She then asks me if she can follow me to her house just in case, sure no problem we will go slow. She gets home and I have to show her how to shut the hazards off and she good to go. As I'm walking back to my car she thanks me and asks how much she owes me and I walk back to her and pretend like I'm adding stuff up and look at her and say "1 hug" should cover it. That's why I do this job!!!!!!!
The rest of the day was surprisingly uneventful.
